Tom Sullivan Honored With 40 Under 40 Award

Building Momentum is so excited to announce that Tom Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer, is recognized with a 2022 Alexandria Chamber of Commerce 40 Under 40 Award for his professional accomplishments, leadership and community impact. This prestigious award celebrates leaders and innovators whose efforts serve the greater Alexandria area. Tom will be honored alongside the other 2022 40 Under 40 class members at the annual ceremony on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the American Physical Therapy Association.

Tom has worked with Building Momentum since 2018, and in that short time has helped build a world-renowned training program, Innovation Boot Camp, and helped create policies and culture that were instrumental parts of Building Momentum being named Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Best Overall Business and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Best Veteran Owned Small Business.

Tom started at Building Momentum as a Founding Engineer, but quickly moved up to Director of Training. He thrived in the role and oversaw Build Mo’s most important business area, technology training for the DOD, industry, and academia. During this time, Tom built a team of highly motivated trainers that has since taught more than 5,000 students all over the world, making himself an integral and indispensable member of the company.

He masterfully interacted with a range of clients, including admirals and generals within the US Armed Forces, leadership of the City of Alexandria and Fairfax County, and leaders of industry. Tom leads with authentic and vulnerable leadership and superlative organizational skills. This led Tom to be moved into a stronger role in leadership and a more impactful position in the company to enact his ideas, ideologies, and skills, as Chief Operations Officer.

Building Momentum prides itself on having many different types of clients requesting many kinds of services and Tom, as Chief Operating Officer, orchestrates all these moving parts into the dynamic harmony that is Building Momentum. During any given day, Tom will advise generals in the Pentagon to look at problems differently, manage finances so payroll can run, design, and develop a bespoke training lab, implement policies that improve our already amazing employee benefits offerings, mentor junior staff struggling with engineering projects, and provide different perspectives on business endeavors for 2025 and beyond.

Tom has made such an impact at Building Momentum, and we are so proud (though not surprised) to see Thomas Sullivan awarded as one of the 2022 class of 40 Under 40 Honorees. Congratulations, Tom!

Tom Sullivan joins Building Momentum team members Cheyanne Dwyer (2021), Allen Brooks (2020), and Emma Quinn (2020) as 40 Under 40 Honorees.
